When you are getting ready to get a quote on a garage door there is a few things you need to know before Before contacting your local garage door supplier.

  • Measure the width of the opening from inside trim to trim
  • Measure the height from floor to top of trim

Great! Now that you have the opening size you also need to measure the headroom. The headroom is above the opening, from top of trim to ceiling. You typically need a minimum of 12.5″ above the opening for standard garage doors. The headroom should be flush and no obstruction in the way. If there is beam in the way, you would need to measure up to the beam. This is necessary to get an accurate quote, and to make sure you are getting the right hardware for the garage door. If you are not sure what to measure, send images to customer service and they can walk you through on where to measure.
